Victor Socaciu, musician, composer, director and producer of television shows, one of the most appreciated folk artists in Romania, was born on January 14, 1953, in Brasov. He graduated from the Mathematics-Physics High School no. 1 from Brasov, and in 1969 he took classical guitar lessons at the Popular Art School in Brasov, in the class of Prof. Teodor Martinescu. In 1978 he graduated from the Faculty of Electromechanics at the University of Brasov, with a degree in engineering. He was also a graduate of the “Ovidiu Şincai” Social-Democratic Institute – Master in “Management in Politics” (2007).
Victor Socaciu debuted on stage in 1970, with the rock band Zodiac, in which he was a guitarist and vocal soloist. His attraction to folk music began in 1972, when, according to his own confessions, he heard Mircea Florian singing on the radio. Since 1973 he has been active in the “Dacia Felix” Cenacle at the Brasov University Center, and his first folk songs (The train, The target, Between good and evil, Under the shield of dusk) enjoyed a real success in the student environment.
In 1975, Victor Socaciu made his radio debut with the song “Ghosts of Memories”, and the following year he made his TV debut with the song “Oltule”. He was a member of the Cenacle “Flame” from 1976 to 1982, then a member of the Cenacle “Celebrations of the Spark of Youth” (1983-1985).
Victor Socaciu has been a producer, over time, of genre festivals such as the National Festival – Folk Music Contest “Good Man” (since 1991), the National Festival – Contest “Love Song” in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Cults, Romanian Television and Radio Romania Actualitati), the “Country music” Festival, of many other cultural-artistic events, as well as the initiator and producer of the “Romanian Golden Art” project.
He has been a member, since 2002, of the Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists and has signed over 300 songs declared at UCMR-ADA (Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists – Copyright Association).
He won numerous awards in the field of music, and in the period 2018-2020, he participated, together with Ducu Bertzi and Vasile Sheikaru, in numerous concerts in the country from the series “Folk collection”.
Victor Socaciu was a deputy in the Romanian Parliament, in the 2008-2012 legislature, being elected in the electoral constituency no. 28 Mureş, uninominal college no. 4, on the lists of the Political Alliance Social Democratic Party + Conservative Party, from the Social Democratic Party.
