A young musician from West London has died of a stroke aged 34, as his family pays tribute to the “incredible” man who was “so loved by so many people”. William George Tackie from Northolt died on May 1, 2022, after suffering a bleed on the brain, leaving those who knew him “shocked and devastated”.

William’s cousin Jason Yaotey opened up to MyLondon about the life and legacy of his best friend. “The stroke came as a shock,” Jason explained. He added that when William was born, due to problems with his kidneys, doctors predicted he would only live for six months - although he battled through his health issues, he sadly still only lived to be 34-years-old.

He added: “It was shocking, it hurt. We were going to go and see him, but in the morning we got a call from his brother and he told me that he’d passed. It was devastating. It hits me more and more that I can't pick up the phone and just talk to him.”

William dealt with a number of health issues throughout his life, though Jason explained that he never let this stand in his way. He was a hugely accomplished musician, under the name 3Will, and had appeared on The X Factor as a musician. He was looking ahead to proposing to his girlfriend and furthering his creative career.

Jason explained that William, who was the best man at his wedding, always put others first. “People always knew us as the African Ant and Dec, or the Ghanian Jedward. He was an amazing person. He knew what God had put him on the earth to do - to show people that, even in the midst of troubles, whatever you're going through health wise, you can still enjoy life and make people smile.”

To pay tribute to William, Jason has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his grieving family and fund his funeral celebration. The page has already raised more than £5,000, and a number of tributes have been left for William.

The fundraising page describes William as “the life of any party,” adding that he brought joy, laughter and love to everyone he met, and despite his wrestle with health issues, he took great delight in putting others before himself by putting a smile on people’s faces.”

More than 600 people came to say goodbye to William at his funeral celebration, and Jason explained that each and every donation has hugely helped his family at such a difficult time. “He was a man of faith,” Jason told MyLondon.

“He always had a positive outlook on life, just encouraging people. Faith meant a lot to him, and he would constantly encourage people that God had a plan for everyone, that everyone is loved by God as well.”

Throughout his life, William was a huge advocate of organ donation and worked with the NHS to raise awareness of dialysis, which he went through a number of times. He worked to encourage as many people as possible to sign up for organ donationwhich is something Jason continues to do in his memory.

Jason said: “Whether through his great sense of humour, music, event hosting, willingness to help others or spectacular dancing, William always tried his best to achieve greatness and inspire others to do the same.”
